Out of School Program – Ages 17 to 24
Occupational training and contextualized academic enrichment qualify participants to sit for the Credentia Exam. Achieving passing grades places students on the Pennsylvania State Nurse Aid Registry and qualifies them or assistance in finding employment.
Learning opportunities include classroom activities, nursing skill laboratories and clinical experience in a long-term care facility. About 95% of students receive an employer-recognized credential, and more than 80% go on to post-secondary education or full-time employment.
How to Enroll
- The first step towards enrollment is to attend a testing session.
- Plan on roughly three hours for the test.
- The test consists of math and reading.

Out of School Program – Ages 17 to 24
Out-of-school youth receive academic instruction and support geared to assist them in obtaining their GED and transitioning into a post-secondary institution. Life skills, college readiness, career exposure, and computer technology are also addressed throughout the program. Students participate in job fairs and career panels, go on college tours, and other field trips.
Approximately 80% of students receive their GED, matriculate into college, gain an industry-recognized credential and/or enter employment.
These courses provide the foundational knowledge to pass the GED and refresh high school academics along with building necessary computer skills.

Are you interested in caring for and supporting individuals with mental and behavioral health issues? The Direct Support Professional Pre-Apprenticeship Program offers young people a pathway into employment as Behavioral Health Technicians, including the opportunity to “earn and learn” as Registered Apprentices.

The Skilled Career Pathways program will help young adults find employment with companies that have fair wages, good benefits, and great promotion opportunities. The Skilled Career Pathways program offers professional development, career readiness and job placement for young adults between the ages of 18 – 24. Employment opportunities include Education, Home Health Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant, Private Caregiver, Mental Health Worker, Mental Health Counselor, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Retail, and Non-profit. Applicants will need a resume, birth certificate, state/city photo ID, copy of High School Diploma, HSE or Certificate of completion for vocational education.

STEAM Scholars (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) engage in creating, learning, collaboration and problem-solving for challenges that don’t have clear cut answers. STEAM Scholars explore STEM and Health-related careers through hands-on experiences, mentorship and learning from professionals in those fields and actively apply what they learn to innovate in their communities.
District 1199c sets base in local schools to enlighten young adults on careers that specify in any STEAM field.
Bridge to Employment is a workforce development program that provides professional development, industry recognized credentials, and paid work experiences to North Philadelphia youth ages 17-21 that are interested in entering the health care industry.
