The District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund offers free or low cost education and job training classes to eligible students. Our classes focus on training for healthcare, human services and childcare.

Use the menus below to choose a program, and then complete our Agency Intake Form; a Training Fund Career Coach will get back to you as soon as possible.

 
  • College and Career Readiness + GED®
    Intensive Academic Refresher
    Basic Language Arts, Writing and Mathematics skills review (8 weeks)
    High School Equivalency and Foundation Programs
    Foundational knowledge to pass the GED® or HiSET, refresh high school academics and build computer skills

    Transition Bridge Programs
    Accelerated and contextualized classes for adult students preparing for post-secondary training and/or a new career.
    Pre-Nursing
    Part-time classes in English, mathematics and science help students upgrade their academic skills to pass the TEAS Test for admission to nursing programs.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) + Citizenship + ESL Health
    FREE ESL / English Literacy, Citizenship and Civics Classes
    These programs are for non-native speakers of English who want to improve their reading and writing skills to prepare for employment, training, post-secondary education, and the citizenship test.
    English Literacy and Civics students will:
    • Improve Reading & Writing Skills
    • Study U.S. Government & History
    • Increase Civic Participation & Volunteer for Community Service
    • Prepare for the Naturalization / Citizenship Test and Interview
    • Become U.S. Citizens!
    Vocational ESL (VESL) students will:

    Pre-Apprenticeship program preparing students to work in the Pharmacy section at local CVS stores.

    Direct Support Professional (DSP) Pre-Apprenticeship Program
    Career exposure and professional skill development that can lead directly to employment, or qualify graduates for a Behavioral Health Registered Apprenticeship Program that awards free college credits.

    Pharmacy Technician
    Four-month part-time prepares students for the pharmacy technician certification examination

    Telemetry Technician
    Three-month course provides students with the skills necessary to analyze and interpret normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms in a clinical telemetry setting.

    SPD (Supply, Processing & Distribution) Technician
    Intensive part-time program prepares students to attain Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

    16-hour course prepares students for the National Restaurant Association's ServSafe examination (certification valid for five years)

  • Behavioral Health 
    Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
    Nine-month, part-time certificate program prepares students to work in behavioral health fields including mental health, development disabilities and drug/alcohol recovery, and qualifies students to enter Jefferson University's Behavioral Health Program. BHT Completion will qualify students to take one course at Jefferson and be awarded 24 college credits.

    Thomas Jefferson University Behavioral Health Articulation Program
    Articulation program to help Behavioral Health workers move up their career ladders; includes 30-Credit Collegiate Certificate and Associate Degree Programs at Jefferson University. Graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the Jefferson Bachelor of Arts degree program in Behavioral Health.

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
    EMT to Paramedic Pre-Apprenticeship to Apprenticeship Pipeline
    This program prepares students for rewarding positions as an EMT in a variety of job settings including the Philadelphia Fire Department Fire Academy, private ambulance companies, and in transport positions in hospitals.  For more information visit Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Childcare + Early Childhood Education
    Child Development Associate (CDA):
    120-hour part-time program prepares working Childcare Professionals to apply for Child Development Associate (CDA) certification. For more information, visit CDA.
    Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Program:
