Training Fund's College & Career Readiness and EL/Civics instructional teams honored by PA Department of Education

Training Fund receives four Bootise Awards for excellence in adult education

Philadelphia, PA - July 31st, 2017: The District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund was honored to receive four awards though the Pennsylvania Department of Education's "Bootise" Award program.

Receiving top honors for the Training Fund was the EL/Civics team, led by Arlyn Freed. For the fourth year running, the Fund achieved the highest level of EL/Civics Educational Functioning Level (EFL) gains in Pennsylvania, and also finished #1 in PA for highest % of EL Civics students entering employment.

The Training Fund's College & Career Readiness team also excelled again this year, finishing third in the state in overall student outcome attainment, and #1 in PA for highest % of Education Functioning Level gains for Beginning ABE (Adult Basic Education) students. 

"Congratulations to the staff, teachers, tutors and students who achieved such great outcomes!" said Training Fund Executive Director Cheryl Feldman, announcing the news. "We are proud of your accomplishments!"

About the "Bootsie" Awards

The Pennsylvania Department of Education's Division of Adult Education announces the Bootsie and W.E.S.T.O.V.E.R. Award winners each year in recognition of programs' achievement in various performance measures. The "Bootsie Award" is named after Bootsie Barbour, long-time Project Coordinator for the Consultation and Facilitation services offered through the Professional Development System.
