District 1199C Training Fund student featured in Philadelphia LISC Community Connector newsletter

Brittany succeeded in multiple Training Fund programs with support from program staff and LISC-funded Bridges to Career Opportunities coaches

Philadelphia, PA (text by LISC) - December 7th, 2016:
Brittany obtained her GED in June from the District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund, then in October enrolled in the Training Fund's LISC-supported Bridges to Career Opportunities (BCO) program that provides training and support to help people move up the career ladder. Brittany has excelled in her coursework, completing her certified nursing assistant (CNA) certification and CPR/First Aid certification. Through BCO's career exposure, Brittany has enrolled in classes at Community College of Philadelphia starting in January 2017 and has set her sights on learning sonography.

While in the FOC BCO program, Brittany met with the employment coach and financial coach for assistance in getting her own apartment.  In order for her to be accepted into subsidized housing with Women's Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), she had to interview with multiple staff, provide financial statements, and provide documentation of budget/goals. Brittany was able to do all this with the help of BCO staff and moved into her brand-new two-bedroom apartment with her daughter on October 1st.
Brittany's long term goal is to work within a hospital setting and become a motivational speaker about her experience as a survivor of domestic violence. She is incredibly optimistic about her bright future.
